Joe Vostermans is a long time member of L'Arche Daybreak and the director of Intercordia .

The organization was founded at the initiative of Jean Vanier. Vanier who wanted to help universities to develop credited programs aimed at training students in the practice of peace, and in the development of practical, intellectual and humanitarian skills, which would enable them to address the fundamental human problems of our time.

They just launched a new website and you are invited to visit. Read more below ...

Intercordia Launches New Web Site!

Intercordia Canada is fundamentally about building relationships. We are learning that the network of relationships that constitute the Intercordia Program is growing beyond just the connections our students make with their host families and communities while they are on placement during the summer months. Students make strong friendships among themselves during the academic year while participating in the Seminar Program. They make connections with the people they approach for financial support during their fundraising initiatives. They become connected with our campus reps as we share life stories and meals - which are an intricate part of the preparation seminars.

Students become very close with their host families and return home talking about “My host brother; My host mom!” They also make friends with other young people from their local communities and meet volunteers from other countries who are living in the same community. Since the program is a combination of academic learning and first hand experience students bring the faculty and university staff into the Intercordia network. Over the years the question has arisen, “How do we remain faithful to all these relationships and honour the role they are playing or have played in our lives?”

The launch of the new Intercordia Web site is one answer to this desire. We have designed a site that makes sharing information, stories and photos easy in the hope that through this network all our partners will be able to keep connected and share how the Intercordia experience is and continues to be important and change their hearts. No electronic medium can replace the gift of “being together,” but it is our hope that the site will be a meeting ground to keep the experience alive and encourage us to “See the World Through the Eyes of our Hearts.”
