During a talk given in France a number of years ago, Jean Vanier spoke about the beauty of the universe and told his audience that he would have liked to have been an astronomer. Did he suspect that one day an asteroid - discovered on August 12, 1929 by C.J. Krieger at Mount Hamilton, California - would be named after him?
On May 27, the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center named asteroid 8604 after Jean Vanier. The citation reads :
Discovered 1929 August 12 by C. J. Krieger at Mt. Hamilton.
