Opening : L'Arche Foundation Executive Director

Wednesday May 9, 2012

In 1964 Canadian social and spiritual entrepreneur Jean Vanier had a dream to transform the lives of people with an intellectual disability by creating small communities of belonging where authentic friendship would be fused into the practice of traditional care-giving. Today there are 140 L’Arche communities in 35 countries including a growing network of 29 communities from coast to coast across Canada. Jean Vanier’s dream continues to resonate around the world.

The L’Arche Canada Foundation, founded almost 10 years ago, exists for the sole purpose of financially supporting the work of Jean Vanier and L’Arche across and beyond Canada. With its first Executive Director making a geographical move, we are seeking a new Executive Director, someone who is looking for a challenge and who can become an important part of the history of L’Arche. This role is suited to a multitalented individual with an entrepreneurial spirit who has the desire and energy to take the Foundation to the next level of growth and impact.

Accountable to a Board of Directors, you will immerse yourself in the history, mission and impact of L’Arche. You will nurture the personal passion that you will need to be successful within L’Arche. You will create a strategy map so that the Foundation becomes a fully diversified national fundraising entity and you will appropriately expand staffing capacity to support the fundraising efforts. For example, you will grow the Annual Fund from $1.9M to $3M and initiate a major campaign. You will work with the Board of Directors to review its size and membership in light of its national mandate. New major gift volunteers will be recruited, guided and coached to increase major gifts. You will develop policies, procedures and processes needed at this stage of the Foundation’s existence. You will build on the strengths of our current donor stewardship and direct mail practices and map out a plan for continued growth. You will renew the vision and strategy around our small endowment program. In short, the Executive Director will lead all fundraising initiatives with the goal of advancing the mission impact of Jean Vanier and L’Arche Canada.

The successful candidate will be a knowledgeable and confident fundraising professional with 8 – 10 years years in progressive management positions with excellent communication, interpersonal, collaboration and organizational skills. Previous experience in community and faith-based advancement, either professionally or personally, would be considered an asset.

The opportunity to influence and lead L’Arche Canada Foundation during this exciting time, in a stimulating work environment full of challenges and opportunities, awaits the qualified candidate.

This search is being conducted on behalf of L’Arche Canada Foundation by crawfordconnect, a search firm specializing in finding leaders and fundraisers for Canada’s non-profit and charitable sectors.
