Representatives from the communities of Mexico, Honduras, Brazil, Argentina, Haiti and the Dominican Republic had the privilege of participating in the Latin American and Caribbean Zone Assembly, whose main purpose was to approve our new Constitution.
During this gathering, we lived days of intense training and learning but also festive days. Each community showed its products, handmade in the respective workshops, and performed a native dance of its culture.
The meeting was also a very significant event for some of our core members: everyday Audrey, Gustavo and Ivan took part in every activity developed by the assembly: the lectures, the meditation time, etc. More than once were we moved by their simplicity when they reminded us of the substantial messages, which we were not to forget. And they made us laugh! It is impossible to forget how Gustavo, making fun of a presidential propaganda, acclaimed our coordinator with a: “Go ahead Maria Elvira!” The message can be extended to everyone: “Go ahead El Arca!”
For me, participating for the first time in such an event, was a true lesson of love and a sample of what L’Arche is able to do. “Saber que se puede” (To be sure that it is possible), the message of the song selected for the Assembly and danced on by everyone, is so true! Having witnessed so many people from different cultures united around the same mission, one must believe that the whole world can be transformed! |
