Dear Friends,

I am very grateful and delighted to announce that Bob Sackel has accepted the position of Director of Vocational Development for L'Arche USA. In this role, Bob will lead and coordinate development of recruitment and vocational programs for assistants, core members, volunteers and leaders of L'Arche communities in the United States.

Many of you know Bob from his twenty years of membership and service in
L'Arche: as community leader of L'Arche Syracuse, as Eastern U.S.
Regional Coordinator, and most recently as Assistant Director of L'Arche Syracuse. Prior to coming to L'Arche, Bob worked in direct service positions and leadership roles in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and Catholic Charities in the Pacific Northwest, and in mental health transition services in Syracuse.

More than for the positions he has held, you probably know Bob for the person he is: a person of integrity, wisdom, and prayer, who is a friend and mentor to many in L'Arche in the U.S. and around the world.
Bob has often been called upon in L'Arche to serve on zone and international teams. These have included the International Covenant Commission, International Strategic Planning Committee, North American Ecumenism Commission, North American Leadership Training Program (which he helped develop), and the L'Arche USA Membership Commission. Bob also has extensive experience as a planner and animator of retreats for core members, assistants, and board members.

In his application letter, Bob said "I believe a leader needs to be a servant of communion, and this role would allow for that opportunity.
The idea of coordinating programs and being part of a team that brings unity, growth and stability to the USA communities is exciting."

Bob will assume his new role for L'Arche USA in mid-October. He will work out of an office in the L'Arche Syracuse community, where he continues as a daily life member. At least for the time being, his contact information will remain the same:
