Aftermath of the Hurricane in Haïti
Maria Elvira

We received these two letters from Maria Elvira, Zone Coordinator of L'Arche Latin America and the Caribbeans, and Evelyne Verdirer, president of the Board of L'Arche Haïti. They talk about the life in Haïti after the hurricanes.

Letter from Maria Elvira, Zone Coordinator of L'Arche Latin America and Caribbeans

Hi everybody,

I want to inform you I just had a conversation with Evelyne Verdier, president of the L’Arche Haïti Board, who talked about what the country is going through, after several storms and hurricanes, worsening the already chaotic situation of the Haitians. An unbearable situation with a shortage of even the most basic.

The L’Arche houses in Carrefour and Chantal weren’t generally affected by the floods, but Chantal’s workshop was damaged. We thank God that the people are relatively stable in what we can call the country’s critical situation.

Evelyne told me she had lots of difficulty accessing the Internet, this is why she couldn’t answer all your emails; she thanks you for your solidarity and prayers.

Let’s keep them in our daily prayers, as well as the victims in the Dominican Republic.

Kind regards,

Maria Elvira

Évelyne Verdier, présidente du CA de L'Arche Haïti president of the Board of L'Arche Haïti

Dear friends of L'Arche,

Thank you to everybody for all your thoughts and prayers. It is good to feel your solidarity en these difficult times.

Our country, our dear country is suffering... its children are suffering. We are in the spotlight again, and it is hard for us (even when the reality stares us in the face!) to see those end-of-the-world images of despair, broadcasted in the media around the globe, with profuse comments... that deeply hurt.

Yes, the victims are many, some regions of the country are devastated... The new school year scheduled for September 8th was postponed to October 6th. The international aid and the national solidarity are mobilized. Today a radiotelethon was held successfully in Port-au-Prince.

Our friends of L'Arche are well, thanks to God's mercy who watches over and protects the L'Arche mission in Haïti: in Chantal, the workshop was damaged by an uprooted tree. The evaluation of the damage is in progress.

Keep us in your prayers and your heart

Evelyne
