Janet Evaline Moore
July 17, 1947 – July 15, 2010
Surrounded by faithful friends, Janet Evaline Moore passed peacefully away on Thursday, July 15th, at her home in L’Arche Cape Breton, just two days shy of her 63rd birthday, an event she always anticipated with delight.
Born in Sydney to the late Jim and Elsie (Pike) Moore, Janet lived with her family until 1983, when, along with Tom and Anne Gunn, she founded the community of L’Arche Cape Breton in Inverness County.
Left with fond memories of this remarkable woman are her brothers, Bruce, Florida, David (Helen), Ottawa, and her baby sister Wilma (John McGrath), Albert Bridge, as well as seven nephews, two nieces, and three grand-nephews. Also honouring her legacy are the members and friends of L’Arche Cape Breton.
Janet lovingly and firmly babysat many children over her 27 years at L’Arche, and she schooled them all in the values of faithfulness, good humour, prayer, and family. She loved music, parties, her friends and family, a good meal, and getting her own way. A woman of strength and dignity, Janet loved herself wholeheartedly, and so was free to love others with the same passion. Those of us who were lucky enough to receive that love will never be the same. We are proud to have known a woman like Janet.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 17th, from 10:00am – 9:00pm at Janet’s home, The Vineyard, at 1397 Orangedale Road. A celebration of Janet’s life will be held in the L’Arche Cape Breton Chapel in Iron Mines at 2:00pm on Sunday, July 18th. Family and friends are invited to join the L’Arche community for a reception immediately following the service at the Angel’s Loft, Orangedale. Burial will take place at Forest Haven Cemetery in Sydney at a later date.
Family flowers only. Donations in Janet’s memory may be made to L’Arche Cape Breton, 3 L’Arche Lane, Whycocomagh, NS, B0E 3M0, or The Hospice Society of Victoria County, P.O. Box 279, Baddeck, NS B0E 1B0. |
