Aged 42, Peter is a man who suffered a lot, having had to go through hemodialysis session three times a week at the Montreal General Hospital. He was often described there as a ray of light for the whole department.... people were starting to smile and talk when Peter was entering the room.
Since Sunday, Peter had stopped eating. He was obviously suffering from an infection. His lungs were affected. This morning, he tried a last time to oppose - he's had Down syndrome to the end! - the ambulance men who wanted to transfer him to the stretcher and this display of force probably stopped his weakened heart. Peter passed away this January 20th around 8h40 AM, surrounded with Myriam and Renata, assistants in his house, René, Elizabeth and Jocelyn who were there to support the ambulance men's work of convincing him to go. Peter's family didn't wish a reanimation procedure to be undertaken. Yesterday night still, he was saying the words so often heard: "happy, happy" to express the joy of being surroundd by those he loves. Peter was happy despite his suffering body; this is how we will remember him.
The funeral will probably take place on Saturday morning. We will also want to have a vigil around him on Friday night. The time and place will be announced as soon as they will be arranged with his family.
We thank you for holding Peter, his family and community in your prayers.
