An inspiring Month with Hazel Bradley!

Over the past month we in the Western Canada Region had the privilege of welcoming Hazel Bradley from L’Arche Lambeth in London, UK. Hazel is a long-time member of L’Arche and has lived in France, India and the United Kingdom. She is master storyteller and exudes creativity. Her deep love of L’Arche and our mission is contagious.

Hazel Bradley

Initially Hazel was invited by L’Arche Calgary to lead their Community retreat. This gave us the opportunity to invite Hazel to other Communities: Lethbridge, Edmonton, Greater Vancouver, and Comox Valley, where she led events to help build community. In the Region, Hazel participated in Integrating the Mission, our program designed to support Intentional Members as they discern a possible vocation in L’Arche.

Throughout these events, Hazel told stories, helped us tell our stories, led us in mime, mandala building and reflection on commitment and belonging in L’Arche, Hazel’s presence reminded us of our relationships beyond our local Community and of the gift of our Federation.

Here are some thoughts from people in our Region who were touched by Hazel’s presence:

“When you reflect on commitment and belonging in L’Arche it is inspiring to meet with someone like Hazel, who has been in L’Arche for 30 years, who has gone through ups and downs but is still faithful and committed to the mission and vision of L’Arche.” (Annette, Greater Vancouver)

“Hazel’s stories helped me to reflect on the past and to think about how much I have grown.” (Maria, Calgary)

“I liked Hazel’s stories. I told my own stories and people told me I was kind and that I cared for people in my house.” (Donna, Calgary)

“The time spent with Hazel was a wonderful, warm and inclusive event. As a board member, I was impressed by how quickly we become a community of equals. (Bob, Lethbridge)

For all we have been given through Hazel’s presence with us this past month, we give thanks.
